We actually do other things besides worry about the house. A couple of weeks ago our family was asked to do the reading response and light the candle for the third week of advent at church.
I lit the candle, Noah did the reading (Allie held the microphone for him) and he did a great job. Ben didn’t want to get up (no surprise) but it was a wonderful family event.
Benjamin had his school Christmas pageant last week. It was really cute. He was too shy, but he did manage to get up on stage. He spent a lot of time trying to hide and peeking around his friends trying to get a glimpse of the crowd. I don’t think that he sang at all, which is a real shame. He knew all of the songs. He sang them at the dinner table every night. I think that he just get freaked out by all of the grownups.
This past Sunday the boys had their church music class Christmas show. We wanted to have an early dinner before the show. We made a ham, some stuffing, some veggies, and Allison’s yummy mashed potatoes. Benjamin wanted to help out, so we got him peeling some potatoes. This apartment is pretty small and has zero kitchen counter space so naturally they peeled the potatoes right in the living room.
The show was the story of the luminary. Noah was the innkeeper which was a main character. Benjamin was the innkeeper’s son. Ben started out very shy again, but ended up on stage. He seemed to have the most fun constantly pulling off his brother’s headpiece. It sure got a giggle out of the audience.
After the show luminaries were handed out all around. I’m not sure if we’ll actually use the ones that we have since we’ll be travelling all over the place, but it was a nice gesture.
